Turning good intentions into meaningful change
I believe businesses have the power to create meaningful change far beyond their own walls. My work is about helping leaders recognize that potential, uncover their organization's distinctive contribution and turn it into something that creates lasting value for both business and society.
About Tessa
For over 20 years, I've worked across business, government and the nonprofit sector at the intersection of strategy, stakeholder engagement, communications and systems change.
My interest in the power of business to create change began while working at Raincoast Books, the Canadian publisher of Harry Potter. When we were approached about printing the books on more environmentally responsible paper, I saw how a single business decision could influence change far beyond the organization itself.
That experience shaped my belief in the potential of business to create meaningful societal and environmental change, and continues to guide my work today.
Purpose in Practice
Beyond my consulting work, I’m involved in initiatives that reflect my commitment to creating meaningful societal and environmental change.
I’m a passionate advocate for wildlife conservation and the wellbeing of non-human animals. I led the Ivory-Free Canada campaign, which helped change Canadian regulations to end the legal trade of elephant ivory and rhino horn.
Co-Founder, Canadian Purpose Economy Project
Creator and Co-Host, Purpose Connections
Vice President, Elephanatics Foundation
Director, Vancouver Humane Society
My Work Today
I help leaders identify where their businesses have the greatest potential to contribute and turn that contribution into something strategically useful. Through my consulting work, I help organizations connect their social purpose to decisions about strategy, operations, culture, stakeholder relationships and growth.
I believe social purpose is most powerful when it moves beyond aspiration and becomes part of how a business actually works.
